How to brew a Simple V60 Pour Over (Our Tasty Recipe Guide)

One way we like to enjoy single origin coffees is by brewing them via the Hario V60 Pour Over method. The Hario V60 is a popular brewing device used for making pour-over coffee. It was created by the Japanese company Hario, known for producing high-quality glassware and coffee equipment.

The V60 is named after its distinctive design. It consists of a conical dripper, typically made of ceramic or glass, with a large opening at the top and a small opening at the bottom. The shape of the dripper and the single large hole at the bottom are designed to promote an even extraction of coffee grounds.

To brew coffee with a Hario V60, you'll need a V60 dripper, paper filters specifically designed for the V60, coffee grounds, a kettle for hot water, and a carafe or mug to collect the brewed coffee. Another key piece of equipment we like to use to measure and track a recipe is a set of good quality scales.

Thanks for the information. Great update on v60

I've tried many different drippers but still like plastic V60 the best. It's durable and has the lowest thermal mass, so all the heat is absorbed by the coffee and not by the dripper.

What would be the actual weight of v60 coffee? I believe the wet coffee weight is also in the 200ml.

I wish I would have known before getting into filter coffee that I will end up drinking only portions of rather 200ml than 250ml and more. Unfortunately, then I got the ceramic V60 for two portions. Now I mostly use this with the april brew recipes of dividing up 200g in 4 equal pours every 30 seconds and I use pretty hot water (95 degrees). But I still might get a plastic V60 single portion to try out other recipes where more water is filled into the cone at once.

Thanks always for the video. I have a size 02 filter paper. Can I use that for a 1 cup v60 brewer?

You need to get Katrina back for an update, to see how she's doing with her latte art, and teach her something new.

Early on you say you ground 13g of coffee beans, then you said you ground it again (the same or a new batch?) Then you later say you pour water over 30g of coffee. Very confused. I think you meant 30g of water on first pour.

You can't pre-wet anything. Think about it; pre wet? Get something wet BEFORE you get it wet? You're just rinsing it. And by the way, most paper filters don't need rinsing. I've tested this by rinsing paper filters and tasting the run-off; no flavor, EXCEPT with non-bleached (brown) filter paper.

I am using 30 grams beans for 500 ml water 🤨

wtf why would you show the grind size and then shake it constantly to be extra sure we cant even see what the size looks like? Then also no reference like a coin or anything? Absolutely useless.
