It's all about repeating the same motion over and over with consistency. Jim Furyk is a prime example.

Calvin Peete proved a bent left elbow
works a long time ago. Average 82% of fairways hit during a 10 year period.

Love this dudes swing! It’s that swing he does 99% of the time and I feel in my swing 3% of the time but try to create 100% of the time.

“Getting more width” here refers to not bending the trail arm down and externally rotating it in the backswing as Hogan did which keeps the hands and club out further from the the center of rotation which is a point on the ground between the feet but results in the flying elbow at the top of the backswing which is allow the club shaft / club head mass to go past parallel at the top without coming forward. Increasing the length of the downswing path that way increases the time the club head has to accelerate on the way down. Appears to put a lot of strain on the lower back which might take its toll over time as it did with Tiger.

The flaring elbow isn't bad if you bring it in, along the body, on the way through. The issue many people have is that they will flare the elbow and keep it out through the downswing.

Pointing out the bend, flare and anything else. But exceptions don’t make the rule. And Jake is definitely an exception

The elbow bend doesn’t matter as long as you’re able to slot your hands and arms at time right time

Buddy’s also a crazy natural athlete . I wouldn’t recommend amateurs like myself trying this

Awesome, I am no longer worried about my flaring back elbow or bent front elbow.

Honestly, after years of playing I came to the conclusion that every swing that keeps the drives in the fairways or first cut is a great swing. I used to have a natural draw. Took 1 lesson and now I can’t hit a draw even if $1M was on the line with 10 tries. Watched 100s of videos and non work. I’m 6’6 tall 275lbs. My fault is I accelerate from the top. My fav swing besides TW is DJ or Adam Scott, because they are almost my height

That’s the problem with terms like flared elbow. It doesn’t mean the same thing to everyone. Shoulder internal rotation in transition, causing your elbow to stick out: bad. Shoulder abduction end of backswing, not necessarily if you can get it back around in time.

I'm starting to think if you keep your hands inline with your chest inline with shaft until right before going into transition is the new best way to swing. It allows you to take your time in transition and sequence. Checkout dudes handpath. It's almost like the figure 8 drill

Scottie has a bent elbow at impact, too. There was a golfer back in the day who had a broken arm thar wouldn't straighten, and he was crazy consistent

His spinal rotation is inhuman. Dude might be an alien.

The way he takes it so far back reminds me of John Daly sort of, I think John brings it a little more inside on the takeaway but they both bring it back so far and just drop right into the sweet spot transitioning back down

For weekend golfers, is this swing repratable?

I’m not the greatest golfer I started every season 12 over finish about 8 over. That’s constantly playing 3 local courses. They are not very challenging. The greatest advice I was ever given. “ I don’t care how you swing as long as the club head meets square with the ball on impact.”
