Washington, D.C., the nerve center of American power, has some of the richest and poorest people in the country living right next to each other. It's a city deeply divided on class lines. Join me and D.C. locals to better understand what this complex and fascinating place is like.

As a DC native, its not too late to delete this video and try it again.

I agree with most of the commentors here, I dont think the first guy was right for the interview. Among MANY things, he has no clue what a ghetto truly is.

There's a MOMs organic market literally across the street from that gas station on Minnesota Ave. You should come back and let a real local like me show you the city.

As a Londoner I can tell you this guy has zero clue about the lives of Londoners. Not to mention that he turned down a 50k a year job just after leaving Uni which would make him very lucky. He probably never left the city of london which is the square mile of the money and financial district. The fact that he uses the acronym Yuppie which was last used in the early 90s is a testament to the fact that he is very out of touch with reality. Seems like another privileged ‘yuppie’ 😂.

The elite in DC are so far disconnected from the common person it’s disgusting.

Stop lying. You didn't see people shooting up at a bus stop. Peter, you need a native washington to take you on the tour. He should take you on a tour in India, and you'll see real poverty. He's lying and bragging. This interview is disgusting!!!

In 1977, I got stationed at Bolling Air Force Base, right in Anacostia. I lived in Marlow Heights, Maryland, just outside the beltway. I stayed there for three years and saw a lot of changes. I can't imagine what it is like now. Thanks, Peter for your outstanding videos.

Peter, I can tell you that exactly the same thing is going on over here in Germany. People have the feeling that we are spending so much more money overseas than on fixing our own problems. So the U.S. is not alone there although the situation might be worse already there. Thanks for this episode - opened my eyes AND I now really wanna visit the town :)

This man is not a native. I'm a 5th generation native Washington and I can tell from the 1st 5 minutes that this ain't it. Thats not even historic Anacostia. Please come back I'll give you a real tour ❤

Damn Peter. You dropped the ball on this one. You need to re-do this DC video with an actual DC native as the guide

I was raised in DC. Mostly S.E. It was a white English speaking city. No crime, until there was... starting in the 60's. Our family moved us just across the MD DC line. As little girls we alone took the bus into downtown DC. The Washington Monument and area was our playground. We'd run up and down the Monument stairs. Roam the museums. Never heard a foreign speaking person. It's unrecognizable now. There wasn't even a fence around the White House. I wish you would have found someone who is a true DC long time resident.

Lived in the DMV my whole life. You need a DC native for this tour. This guy doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

I have to question the guy who said he had no money yet he moved from India, lived and studied in London and then moved to the states. That isn’t normal for somebody with, no money.

Yeah as a DC native who literally was born in Anacostia and grew up literally across the street at 18:46. This vid was mildly infuriating. Dude talked about how Anacostia is a food desert and how he had to cross the bridge to get "healthy food" is ridiculous when there is a freaking SAFEWAY right down the street from their location! And to hear Peter say "you're right! there is no healthy food around Yall are in a gas station, not a grocery store, wtf do yall expect??

Also was infuriating that Sagnik said that all the residents of Anacostia have low blue collar jobs like trashmen and Mcdonalds. There's a TON of federal workers that live in SE too! Not every federal job pays 100k saleries. You can tell this guy is just a transplant yuppie because he along with all of them always just talk about how dangerous SE is but the only neighborhood they know in SE is anacostia. Im so tired of transplants talking about Anacostia like its skid row when there are pockets of crime that are even higher in Adams Morgan, Shaw, and Columbia Heights.

Lastly, in order to graduate from a DC high school we all had to take DC history and Sagnik's history lesson to Peter was....inaccurate. Yes Le'fant drafted the blueprints for DC but he quit and moved back to Paris before anything was done. His african american apprentice, Benjamin Banneker was actually the one who built DC.

This one needs a redo. Sagnik is a transplant not a local.

With all respect to Sagnik, he did not come to the US broke. He said he had a graduate degree from London and just did an AirBnb stay in Anacostia for 4 months before getting a yuppie job

Not representative of Anacostia struggle and DC culture.

But i appreciate his obvious love for the city.

Just wish someone who really lived it would have spoke on it.

Peter please consider returning and having a DC local show you around! There are many of us who grew up here who would be happy to help! :)

You could've found someone from VA or MD who has never lived in the "district" who could've given a way better representation of the city rather than Sagnik.
