The Heat of 10 billion suns was not actually a physical attack, it was a metaphore of Superman, in fact the line "10 billion suns" is taken from DC one million evemt, when Superman Prime one million first appeared he was described as ten billion thinking suns, and guess what, dc one million and final crisis are both written by Grant Morrison.

So mandrakk was actually using his (Superman) own narrative against Superman himself
