How to Custom Order a New Car

Want your dream car but have some time to kill and are very particular about which trim, color and features you want? You can custom-order a new car straight from the factory! Here's how to do it...

As a former salesman for new VW's in Germany I sold probably around 95% of the cars by order. And for the customer it was cheaper to get the delivery at the factory than at the dealership, even if that car wasn't build at Wolfsburg (hq of Volkswagen). So of all orderd cars I delivered 3 or 4 to the customer at the dealership.
At Mercedes you don't pay any delivery fee if you get it at the factory.
I don't know anybody who got a stock new car. Usually if you buy them new you order them.

Does not work with Toyota. All it means is your preference and dealer tries to match your desires with the allocation. It does work with most German brands

This is the same way I purchased my 2023 Kia Sportage hybrid Sx Prestige. I was driving a 2016 Hyundai Sonata Limited. I liked the 2023 Sportage hybrid when it launched. I watched so many videos of reviewers testing it and I decided I would buy it. I configured what I wanted on the Kia website printed it out and went to my local Kia dealership. I told them this was exactly what I wanted the color I chose and the accessories so they the put exact order in. I had to wait for 7 months before the car was delivered. The dealership updated me every month. The day my car finally went into production they notified me. When the car finally showed up, they called me to come pick my car. They asked if I wanted to finance and I said I was paying cash. I wrote a cheque for $39895 that's with taxes and fees and I even got a $400 discount. I didn't spend more than 45 minutes at the dealership.

Most models can’t be ordered as “custom”. Try ordering a color that is only available on a top trim on a lower trim model. Or a moonroof without having to purchase a $5000 package. Custom should mean exclusive to the customer. You’re merely ordering a car with the options the manufacturer allows. Like ordering a fresh Big Mac at McDonald’s rather than taking one that’s been sitting under a heat lamp for 30 minutes.

Naa.. if i can't see it, touch it, drive it, sense it.. i won't buy it.. We're not talking about a 200.00 item, we're talking a 60k dollar commitment..
