How to Quickly Restore a Proxmox Backup

In this video we'll follow up on our Proxmox Backup Server video by restoring a container that I've messed up to a previously known good state. The process is very easy to do as long as you have a good backup solution in place.

Proxmox has done a great job at making restore backups about as simple as possible, so this is a breeze!

Hi David, I just want to tell you that I enjoy your teaching. I have followed your Raspberry Pi Home server series and also your CasaOS series and I started your OMV6 also, but I had already drank the kool-aid of Proxmox. I am hooked on Proxmox. I have used an old i5-3470 with 16Gb RAM and 1.5 Tb of storage and created this Proxmox Server. It is truly amazing how much I can run on this system now. I remember replacing it in 2020 due to it running slow and I couldn't get it to hardly anything. Now it is my favorite again. You keep doing what you are doing. I appreciate you and what you do. And I will continue to follow your content. Thanks again

If you created template by accident and you don't have backup. Create VM/CT from that template in to fully working VM/CT. Delete Template and use newly create VM/CT as your new starting point.

In my proxmox i have all CT starting with 1, VMs - 2, Things i am running for others 3, When i am just messing around - 6 and my templates starts with 9. Everything sits nicely inside side panel and easy to pick what i want.

Backups goes in to 3TB HDD once a day. I keep 3 last versions of the backup. and once a week these backups goes in to NAS.

I got a Lenovo tiny 710q with a dual core I got for 60 bucks coming this week. With the pre installed 500gb HDD I will fiddle around to get myself up to speed with proxmox

Ive been watching your videos for a while and they are VERY helpful. I'd like to see one on how to backup your PMB server backups and restore from them. i.e. you lose your PVE and PMB server hardware, so you have to build anew, but you made offsite backups of your PMB backups.

Hi David! qq.. what is the diff of having the backups in pvebackup instead of using a remote directory in a nas?

Lets say I just installed PVE onto a single disk using ext4 and that system drive fails to boot one day. Does this work the same?

Huh, I didn't know that you can restore the container to a different proxmox host...is that a new feature of proxmox v7? I'm pretty sure it wasn't possible with v6..that's nice. Now I actually have a better reason to get back to proxmox...thanks! :)

Used your content to setup my server with all the dockers you recommended, very happy with the setup behind tailscale, justnot having https is a pain sometimes. I know now its possible to have https over tailscale with caddy but can't seem to get it working, any chance there is going to be a howto on this?

My only problem with this too is that it deletes the old volumes. If you have a container with 2 volumes, where they are in two different disks, it will put both volumes in the same disk and delete the old volume. In my case, one of the volumes is where I put all the data and because of that I lose all the data from one of the volumes. It should ask If I want to delete the old volumes.
