Conservation experts in Virginia’s capital Tuesday pulled books, money, ammunition, documents and other artifacts from a time capsule found in the remnants of a pedestal that once held a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee.

The lead conservator for the Virginia Department of Historic Resources, Kate Ridgway, said the measurements and material of the box, copper, match historical accounts. As the contents inside were unpacked, they appeared to match the description of the 1887 time capsule they had been looking for.

Regardless of association, it's a major American historical find. So no one GAF about this..? Obviously not, by the care taken with it. This was a taken care of as thoughtfully and professionally as a bunch of 8 year-olds building a tree house. wtf!!! Embarrassing, disappointing, and amateurish. This is cringeworthy at best. "Without damaging the box any more than we have to". That was said AFTER they cut the whole side out. This whole thing made me sick. It was like watching a archeological team digging a site with a sledge hammer and bull dozer. (I'm referring to opening and emptying of the box, not the actual excavation) "COME ON, FOLKS! WE HAVE TO GET ALL OF THESE HISTORICAL ITEMS OUT OF THIS TIME CAPSULE IN 10 MINUTE!!! LET'S MOVE PEOPLE!!! I HAVE SOME RERUNS AND LEFTOVER'S TO GET HOME TO!!!
