Use cases diagrams is one of the many methods used to gather requirements from stakeholders. Some of the most common ways of gathering requirements include interviewing, workflow diagrams, JAD sessions and surveys. Use case diagrams allow the project team to have a common understanding / representation of the goals of the system and users in addition to:

1. Specify system requirements/functionality
2. User Interaction and model for the flow of events
3. Identifies internal/external system integrations
4. Allows team members to brainstorm on needed functionality
5. Creates a great method of communication and collaboration for the project team
