The ongoing B.C. port worker strike entered its seventh day on Friday, and with cargo piling up, an apparent end to this labour action is still not in sight.

After beginning their labour action over concerns about wages, contracting and automation, hundreds of workers under the ILWU union rallied on Thursday.

An estimated $3.5 billion worth of goods remain stuck in the ports of B.C. as a result of the strike, increasing pressure for the federal government to get involved, and for negotiations to conclude.

This is an absolute joke. The union needs to get wrecked. These criminals make way too much money for what the job is.

The port can pay these people what they want and everything will go back to normal. Employers are holding us hostage because they won’t negotiate with labor. This era is not 1800 English Industrial Revolution, so no unfair wages and working conditions. AI and automation is real and workers must adapt but giving higher wages and benefit and training for the workers.

Canada has similar situation where unscreened people have entered Canada without proper background checks and have claimed political asylum.

Shouldn't trudeau be using the Emergencies Act to fix this? It's hurting the economy. 🇨🇦

Are the thousands of people working in the automation industry going to strike?

We should rewrite the anthem to talk about how uncompetitive Canada is now, and how impoverished people are as a result of both the oligarchs and unions.

This strike actually makes a stronger case for the use of more automation. I heard these guys are earning like 137k per year already. They sound greedy to me, especially when Trudeau's policies have made 11 million Canadians dependent on government hand outs in order to be able to afford groceries.

I can get behind REASONABLE wage increase and conditions or benefits. But I won't get behind anything that would hemp the developpement of automation. Just look at the Skytrain, the best in Canada, only being on par with the yet to start REM in Montreal. Time to build a Port for the 21st century like Singapore did.

Is 3.5 Billion enough to automate the entire port?
