How to setup Z-Wave on HomeAssistant

Z-Wave is a popular wireless protocol that many smart home products use. I wanted to release this in parallel with my Zigbee video to cover the wireless dongle setup with ZwaveJS in Home Assistant, despite my limited collection of products that use this protocol. Do you have any ZWave devices that you can't live without? Please let me know!

Oh man, I am in process of trying to get HomeAssistant setup, I have had all my zwave items on my ring alarm base station and i changed all my smoke detectors to these awhile back so now I am dreading trying to unpair all my motion sensors, smoke detectors, door lock and a small handful of lights ...wish me luck lol ..thanks for the great vid

Thanks for this, I was banging my head against the wall with the zwave js ui add on. It is hot garbage in its current state, when you interview a device the generically named entity id's immediately propagate to HA and the add on cannot sync changes with HA. That means you use js ui to add devices, but you now need to tediously manage names in both js ui and HA which is infuriating and inherently broken IMHO. The method you use here makes way more sense for HA, I have no idea why other channels recommend using js ui...

The Zooz 700 Zwave dongle is no longer available on Amazon. I have ordered the Zooz 800.

Great video! The Zooz 700 stick appears to no longer be sold. What is the current Z-Wave recommendation for Home Assistant on Raspberry Pi 4? I have the same First Alert Z-Wave smoke detector, a Levitron z-wave dimmer, and a Ring Alarm system with several Z-Wave sensors. I suspect less than 1% of customers actually make use of the z-wave feature of the First Alert detector.

Can your recommended fire alarms connect to all the alarms I have installed or do I need to replace all of them? I have detectors in my remote carriage house and would love for them to notify me if they go off.

at 3:15 - i see nothing on the USB DEVICE PATH - that whole section is blank... i'm using the zooz 800 long range (zst39 LR)
can confirm it shows up in the device manager under ports
but no idea wtf to do with it, as there's no usb device path...

Will this dongle work directly with my Pi that has home assistant? I was thinking of getting a smart thermostat and many on the forums kept suggesting one that uses zwave.

I think install process changed: "Failed to get Z-Wave JS add-on info."

Thanks for the informative video! But I'm asking around yt...
Why did they make this iot and "smart" home devices so confusing and difficult to setup for DIYers? I bought a house with one singlular smart device installed... MY FRONT DOOR LOCK!! 🤣
This is a kwikset Z-Wave protocol deadbolt set. The 600 or 690... I don't even know anymore... They left no owners manual (I've since found it on Manuf website). But it's VERY vague as to how to get this door lock connected to a "smart home" system! I finally bought the combo Nortek HUSBZB-1 USB Hub/stick. Which as you may know, is supposedly zigbee and Z-Wave compatible.

So here's my question... Do I have to use Home Assistant or is there another app/controller that I can use?

Anyone...?
