@AugustHome Will there be an Apple Watch fix? The Apple Watch August app doesn't work without my phone present. None of the functions work. (Auto-unlock, Unlock from the App) my watch has cellular service. So it should work, right?

My August Lock (4th Generation) had a "eletronic" malfunction and according to August "unfortunately is failing to power on". This is not a very reasonable or reliable product if this fails exactly 15 months after purchase (on December 24th...).

August did not provide any solution, only advising me to buy another one at a discount. The whole website is on discount right now, so this isn't really a solution to help me fix the faulty product made by August.

Even if the product would have failed within the first 12 months, is it really a reliable product if you need to switch your lock (at around 200-300$ price point) every year or every 2-3 years?

I lost all confidence that August is making good product and will go look at Yale Smart Lock now.

I hope this review will help others avoiding buying into unreliable product.

I have three of the new WiFi locks They work fine. I want to have Alexa close all three each night, you can’t. Apparently something about not allowing groups

Make sure it’s compatible with your existing lock. Mine where a Schlage double cylinder and not compatible I bought three new locks from their list only to find it wasn’t compatible with the lock from their list.

There is a floating washer in the August lock faceplate. All three of mine were sticking which prevents he screws from lining up. Before you think we’ll that shouldn’t be such a problem. I spent hour up hours on the phone with their very friendly customer service staff. Even having a video call where we went over trying to install multiple times only to have them give up. The next morning I tried it one more time before planning to return. It worked. At their request I sent them a short video explaining their problem with sticking floating washer.

There isn’t any explanation on how to open the front to access the battery. You push on the faceplate. Another phone call.

For my original Schlage lock there are two choices for the plastic extension. No explanation of which one to use. Another phone call. And that’s when I found out it doesn’t work with double cylinder locks.

After the locks were in I got an opportunity to review the lock. I wrote a review about this long. Apparently too long and wouldn’t send. Shorter. Still not sending. Shorter still not sending. Getting really pissed. Cut back to one line just to see if it would send. Success. But wait it was sent!!! Tried writing a new review but couldn’t as I sent one. So when you see my review at their website it’s way incomplete.

Like many of you I waited a long time for these locks. Maybe they were announced late 2019. There was some promotion going on then and I called to ask if I could pay for the new lock then and just wait for the shipment months later. It was a 25% off promotion. No worries a wonderful customer service person says. We will honor that for you later when we have pricing. Cool. I have it in email. So I call to purchase. Yep you guessed it. They won’t honor their promise. But to be nice, they are al very nice, they will give me 3% discount. No no no I say let me talk to a supervisor. Waiting. Waiting. Waiting. Good luck I have been authorized to give you a 20% discount. . But but but I have an email saying 25%. There was no budging. I took the 20%. But I told them that hey I’m retired so I will shame you for cheating me out of $2.36 time 3. Is it worth a bad review. Apparently it is worth it to August.

Oh well. It’s a beautiful lock. They will get it to run better with Alexa. Though I have called back several times, I’m retired remember, to ask about allowing Alexa to close multiple locks with one command and as of yet it still can’t. Why? August says call the Alexa people. August should create a routine. Did I tell you I’m retired:) I’m also patient and persistent. It’s a good luck and very happy. But it’s not quite there yet.

the span of rotation is too little which makes it very limited to smaller types of doors and locks. I am disappointed

My experience with this product has been genuinely epic. I have been attempting to get it working since September of last year (that’s over a year).

Now for some of that time I was unfocussed because of the pandemic, but I have traded literally dozens of interactions and encountered a support rabbit hole the likes of which I have never seen.

After successfully installing the lock (drilling a new hole in my door and into the steel door frame for the tongue) I updated the app at one point.

From that point forward the app no longer recognized the lock. I went through the standard procedure of reinstalling; the app presents you with a screen to add a new lock. When I did this, it told me that I already had a lock and needed to factory reset it.

But the app will only allow that if you are connected. Complete circular logic. I’m not easily deterred, so after trying this a few times I contacted their support and received the most agonizing runaround imaginable.

From what I surmise they do not keep track of your emails and so each interaction begins the process again. They also rely on some AI functions that make the problem even more frustrating.

They have asked me to send in proof of purchase, show a picture of the back of the lock (twice) and as of today they sent me a cheery email suggesting I use the app to reset the lock. Absolutely maddening.

I seldom burn bridges by writing negative reviews while still owning a product, but I am now throwing this into the garbage and if you don’t want to spend a year and many hours repeating my experience, I advise you strongly to avoid this company.
