The Absolute BEST Moose Cartridge Available!

So if you want an absolute, by golly, Spomer says the 338 win mag is the absolute best compromise moose cartridge out there. The 416 will hit 'em harder. The 223 will be more efficient but the 338 win mag is right in the middle of the ballpark, by golly. That's the one you want. And I'm just assuming it's gonna work just fine, even though I've never used it.

But that's my point, guys, if you, you can go ahead and pick one and say, I've declared, this is the absolute best, but come on. We've all had different experiences and this is why we continue to discuss this stuff and argue about it. And that's another complaint I get is why do I keep going over this stuff again?

And again, because we enjoy discussing these. I mean what hunter doesn't like to pick a fight with his buddy about that crappy caliber? You're telling me you're using a 25 -06 on an elk? You're nuts. So that's the fun of it.

bought a sporterised by Kimber vc24 mauser in .338win mag while i lived on the Kenai pen. in Seward for moose & bear protection. When i moved back to the Washington coast it was used for elk . perfect in both states!

You do you .I chose a 35, Whelen, on a blueprinted 1903 action with a apex barrel, the only thing I change is the brakes, and it is a tack driver. I have nothing against a 338 win, but I would go to a bigger caliber if I was after Cape buffalo and and anything less I will stay with what I got . I use 200 gr superformance at a bit over 2900, and I think even a moose is glassy eyed at the end of the bang.

Ill say it again, 338 wm is most common in alaska for moose because it does everything including big bear great. So there must be something to it if its the most common. Many many guides use it as a backup.

For any hunter the best caliber for hunting any size game is the one they can handle the recoil from, put the bullet where it needs to go, and be powerful enough to put a animal down as fast as possible. It’s different for different people, what works well for me may not work for you. Just like our shoes, one size doesn’t fit all, most of the time if a shooter is thinking of the recoil it makes it harder to put it in the right place. Hard to beat a .338 for moose.
I used it for decades and never had a moose walk away on me. Besides moose I shot deer and a few elk with it while moose hunting. A great big game cartridge!

I like being in the middle of the ball park, as long as I have a ice cold coke and a Philly cheese steak in hand Ron. Love the thoughts and fun of these shorts. I'm taking the 270 with 150 grain Federal Premium Nosler Partitions. Or my 7mm Remington Magnum with a HSM 180 grain managed recoil so I can see the hit. Or the miss. 🤣😂😜

Yeah it’s a good choice. Especially for Barnes ttsx. Recoils less then the lead ones works pretty well if you put it in a good place. Straight into shoulder bone is just fine
