SO glad that Susan's still around to set the record straight. Apollonia's tall tales about deserving writing credit on Prince's songs (only his hits, by the way) is disrespectful to the musical community, the craft itself, and to his legacy.

I have been a Prince fan for many years, I never bought into that Apollonia helped Prince write any of his songs. I am glad Prince's sound engineer back in the eighties Susan Rogers is telling us the truth.

Fascinating. I could listen to Susan talk for DAYS about everything to do with Prince and his creative process.

I love knowing the inspiration behind the music. It adds another story to the story that the song creates in my head. Anyone fascinated by the sources of creative expression will always be fascination by where it comes from.

I think Susan was his longest serving engineer. No one could keep up with him. I mean you heard her say just then “a rare night off”. The man was extraordinary x a billion. How could one person write so much material for himself and for 3 or 4 other acts? Not only that, he created Morris Day and The Time so he could have a cross town rivalry🙈☺️, that’s just plain out insane. Possibly the most gifted musician to ever walk this earth.❤

"I wasn't in the room."

"I was."

So true that inspiration comes from everywhere. And nowhere. And somewhere in-between. All at the same time.

Duane: I don't when it comes to Manic Monday. I wasn't in the room--
Susan: I was.

I mentioned a few stories that Apollonia has told to someone who knew Prince and they just shook their head. Lol

Peggy clearly worked on the Vanity 6 version (she even said she thought it was "for Vanity 6"), where Prince recorded the instrumentation and guide vocal for Vanity at Sunset Sound. Brenda says Vanity's vocals were recorded, so maybe he did those vocals with her in MN with Don Batts. The others, per the dates of their involvement with the track, worked on an Apollonia 6 version. Timeline arithmetic. Rogers shouldn't assume that what she saw in his lyric notebook was about her.

Timing....I literally was listening to Manic Monday a few days ago and was thinking, I wonder who and what inspired him to write it..

I vaguely remember watching a VH-1 “Where Are They Now” episode and one of the Bangles said that Prince really had the hots for Suzannah Hoffs so he kept lingering around the studio even when he didn’t need to. But Suzannah wasn’t interested and the other girls were kinda getting annoyed at him. Haha. Great song though.

The melody of the verses of "Manic Monday" are the same as "1999"!

Apollonia claims to have written Manic Monday. Also, Glamorous Life.

I can’t believe some folks actually believe Apollonia help write manic Monday. I wrote manic Monday NOT her haikus….

The greatest true story i ever heard about prince that very few knew is that he wanted to be a top hip hop soul funk artist like most of his idols growing up but then after seeing Morris day steal his shows event after event he thought how can i be the best hip hop/soul artist in the world when hes not even the best in Minneapolis, so he moved over to rock/pop and 1999 and Little red corvette were born.

I think Manic Monday was inspired by Denise Vanity Johnson of the Time did an interview and he talked about how he would give Vanity a ride to rehearsals and how she was always making them late and Prince would dock/fine their pay because of it. Jesse would go on to say Vanity would come out in her outfits and people would just look and stare...🤨
