State courts pick up where SCOTUS fails

State courts across the country have the ability to emerge as critical defenders of democracy amid the radical conservative shift in the Supreme Court. From climate change and voting rights to abortion access, state constitutions have the opportunity to lead the way in preserving and expanding individual rights. Donald Trump’s recent conviction by 12 New York jurors illustrates how state law is stepping up in the absence of federal accountability.
