It's funny how many similar experiences we've had. My wife and I first placement lasted 1 day. The case worker used us to babysit while the girls grandmother got her approvals. But didn't tell us any of this when we picked the girl up. We also had a case worker go nuts because we had "missed" some development check, which consisted of some really basic questions like, "is the child having seizures?" and watching the child play for a couple of minutes, when we had been getting the child regularly checked by a physician. This was like our 3rd year and 5th kid and no one had ever mentioned this check before.

I for one am shocked, shocked, that there is a noticeable disconnect in government between the shot callers and the frontline workers.

What's sad about this story is that you know that even some of the 2 year olds in foster care probably are having problems with their teeth due to neglect and abuse. The foster worker flipped because she was unfamiliar with your case and didn't have the information to know your kid wasn't subject to those stressors. That she didn't have the time to prep on the nuances of your placement simply proves your point about how over burdened they are.

You should talkA Series of Unfortunate Events, the ultimate foster horror story. The books are great, but they're practically impossible to adapt to the screen, which is why the movie and the Netflix series have such different tones.

My wife and I are open to adopting but early in our marriage, I told her that we shouldn’t foster for one reason. She has a very tender heart and I’m not positive she can emotionally handle the stories of some of these kids. I’ve been told I may have blown this out of proportion in my head so if you could speak to that, I’d appreciate it.

I had a nephew taken into foster care a few years ago. We tried to adopt him once it was clear reunification wasn't happening. Our experience with social workers was so bad that I am unwilling to have them anywhere near my house while my children are at an age where they could be taken away. I don't trust social workers. I assume that anything they're saying is a lie. Perhaps I'll try once my kids are grown but there's no chance now.

Silly is an understatement. I keep thinking of when the Turpin kids were rescued from their abusive parents to be moved under the care of foster parents... whom then turned out to also be abusive to them...

I'd love to but I live in an apartment with a spare room but I'm a bit of an ADHD hoarder of clutter of craft supply and say extra blankets and stuff and collector stuff and boxes that theyd probably say my place is dirty. It's clean just clutter in every corner.

My wife and I were discriminated due to us being Christians, and kept on asking us if our foster kid came out gay would we that them still. I personally don't care or mind if they were gay, but my wife is always on the fence of that tho. And it red flagged us. >:(
