BAKU - Having established an empire in the Muslim world that was second only to the Ottomans, Ahmad Shah was a towering figure. Not surprisingly, his death left the British, Afghans, Sikhs and Russians scrambling to fill the power vacuum. Patented as the Great Game, this was not a new world but an extension of what began in the old one.

Hollywood should make TV shows about Afghan history. Like Game of Thorns. It’ll be great.

Afghanistan has an interesting history.
Love / Respect to Afghans.

Imagine repeatedly declining a leader’s attempts to ally with you, and then deciding that invading their land was the only way to preserve your influence there.

The Battle of Plassey was fought because the Nawab of Bengal Siraj ud-Daula had imposed new tariffs on the East India Company - affecting their profits. The ‘battle’ was in fact nothing but a conspiracy hatched by the EIC, some wealthy local traders in Calcutta and the Nawab’s General Mir Jafar.

Since the local traders made huge profits trading with the EIC, they always had good relations. A few days before the Nawab of Bengal threatened to shut down EIC’s operations in Bengal, the traders met EIC officials and told them they could arrange for the Nawab’s General Mir Jafar to be bought off. They offered Mir Jafar a huge amount of money and promised to make him the Nawab. When Siraj ud Daula attacked the EIC, during the Battle, Mir Jafar betrayed him and withdrew with his contingent of army. Thus, the EIC which was going to be routed won.

Mir Jafar became the Nawab. He granted the EIC more and more rights, including taxation rights. In time the EIC removed Mir Jafar from office - but not before having their earlier partners, the local traders who had brokered the deal, killed one by one.

From the expedition sent to Afghanistan during the first Anglo Afghan war only one man made it out alive of Afghanistan. The mighty British were dealt a humiliating defeat by men wielding sticks and stones

A dislike on black hole tragedy. Many British historians themselves confirm that no such event happened. It was purely an economic feud.
