Hi! I'm Rae, a wife and mom of three kids who works full time in corporate America. The world is a different place these days, and it's compelled me to start building my emergency food and supply stockpile. All mothers, whether they are a working mom or a stay at home mom should consider starting to build a pantry of food and supplies to feed their families in case of an unexpected situation. The last position I'd want to be in is one where my children are hungry and I can't feed them. I started couponing and frugally purchasing food and supplies here and there when I can to slowly build a pantry full of food that could last my family several weeks.

In this video, I'm sharing 5 items that my family makes sure to buy on every shopping trip to make sure we have enough without blowing our shopping budget!

This channel documents my journey to self-sufficient, independent living. I'm going to be stockpiling and learning new skills to care for my family if the comforts and conveniences of our current lives no long exist. I hope to inspire other families to start the same journey and become less reliant on grocery stores and our delicate supply chain for the items they need to live. If you want to follow allow on this journey please consider subscribing to my channel! I post new videos every Sunday night.

Greetings from East Texas! Great start on your Pantry and Preparedness. Can’t eat the Elephant at one meal - it takes many bites. I would recommend you get your cases of bottled water up off direct contact with the cement floor. Reduces chance of leaching from the cement through the bottle plastic. Good job!

Remember most dates are guidelines. Just store in cool, dry, dark areas.

You are so amazing great video. You should possibly do some in store videos and stock up on a bunch of water. Just buy about 10 cases that way you won’t need to worry about it for a while. Just a fun idea

Nearly all foods are safe and tasty well past the best-by date; the same with most meds. I grabbed 30 bottles of shelf stable OJ and Grapefruit juice (64 oz) at my somewhat local Mennonite grocery store for .99/each. They last at least a year (I’ve tested). I used some Gossners shelf stable milk 2 years past the best-by date and tasted like fresh milk.

Thank you & can’t wait for your recipes,
they also say good to have important things written down …

I write down recipes, simple how too’s, account numbers &
phone numbers anything that if grid is down, cyber down not stuck.

Make sure you have good tools & how too’s to be able to fix things, extra parts for household fixes & car fixes.

Pay utilities, mortgage, important bills ahead even one month ahead gives you time to before next pile of bills are due.
think about other ways to communicate if grid is down …

Make sure keep up with dental & health appointments, never know when it might be hard to get back if things go bad.
Know first aid, keep a good supply of first aid items.
Find you tubers … Rain Country ~ Heidi & Off grid with Stacy & Doug ~ Stacy …
these two ladies have tons of medicinal herb remedies to share.

Seeds they say will be very important
Consider chickens ~ eggs are such a whole food.
Appalachia Homestead with Patara ~ she has a lot of good advise this last year to think about …
One video is about 3 types of chickens & why they are good chickens to get.

lastly make your small community of trusted people,
things get tuff in hard times, secure your home & surroundings … extra locks on things.
Keep alert & watchful.

Store up barter items ~
Coffee & Teas
Honey
Batteries
Bandaids
Over counter medicine
Rice & Beans & Pasta
Water
Seeds
Alcohol
Oils
Baking goods
Bullets

Detox your kids from Dependence & Conveniences… like TV & internet …
instead do a art night, a reading books night, a game night, a cooking in the kitchen night, search the stars night. make a indoor fort night pillows sheets & a dining table are good starts …

Well that’s all I can think of for now …

Increase your bartering skills …. sewing, baking, simple taking care of medical needs.
Take care & you are doing such great things for your family …

Batteries don't last a long time, I purchased a set in Dollar General and they were dead when I got them home and Dollar General didn't take them back or give me credit. I never again waste my money on batteries. I purchased solar chargers, purchase rechargeable batteries years ago and continue to purchase them. Never will I waste money on unchargeable batteries, I've been awake since 2009 and have learned a lot.

Why wouldn’t you get rechargeable batteries at that point? It’d be way more cost effective and you don’t have all that waste.
Same with the water bottles. Way more cost effective and less waste to buy either larger jugs or a sterilizing system like the Berkey.
You can also buy lighter fluid and refill lighters instead of buying a whole new one.
I’m all for prepping and having what you feel you need but there’s a lot less wasteful ways to go about doing it.
