Hi my name is Lilly and I am an American expat living on the island of Koh Samui in the gulf of Thailand for the last 12 years. My husband is Thai and his name is Wat. We have two boys named Luke and Leon and a new baby girl named Lyla. Nam is our Nanny and she is like family to us. She is from Myanmar and has worked for us for over 8 years.

I remember as a kid, Songkran is our Thai tradition and l hate getting wet. Seem like your children love it . And celebrating the tradition with family is important. I didn't have this quality time with my family as a kid. My parents scattered different directions. It was sad but l didn't let it effecting me . I have my own family now and we are together since 1988. Except my daughter, she is out spread her wings. Hope you have a great time with your family on Songkran day.

Hi Lilly. Songkran festival have people doing water fights. To Thai people, this is their traditional Thai New Year festival with the symbolic water splashing rituals which represents cleansing, renewal and good fortune.
