April 20, 2023: China’s Path to Global Influence

How is China acquiring global influence? In this talk, Richard Carney shows how autocracies with heavy control over the corporate sector and clientelist systems are most attracted to Chinese infrastructure spending and then in turn import more technology from China and become enmeshed in China’s own technical standards regime. Carney explored how the spread of infrastructure, technology and political influence are interconnected and all contribute to China’s growing influence on the global stage.

Speaker:
Richard Carney, Assistant Professor of Strategy and International Business, China Europe International Business School (CEIBS)
Moderator:
Barry Naughton, Professor, UC San Diego School of Global Policy and Strategy (TBC)

This is Amazing Job Richard! Great presentation and understanding overall, Love many points and particularly with China’s prioritisation in vital resources, case of Malaysia, and Indonesia! But I believe with your amazing insights, but depends, maybe it could go deeper into other factors but again, no judged. It’s your hard work! Blood sweat and tears, but cantering the research on China’s Path to global influence with the prime focus on political structure, although very important, where I believe that it might be more introspective to understand the prominent factor to China’s Path towards global influence, where it is based on the national interests to promote the maximisation of people’s welfare by creating opportunities across all sectors but prominently ( Economy ) for both itself (China) and country’s that also seek prosperity ( which comes by collaboration and improving each other weakness [Economically] [ tech ] [ infrastructure and development ] 🌎 The nation’s current focused on how to have a grasp on balance on human factors ( physical and psychological ) and continue to optimise efficiency, understanding the direct and indirect factors, things like data driven, logistics, and focused on community development, innovation, technological independence. Etc. After, all of that then the nation could hopefully one day start to treat its culture like faith. like how the west have since the 18th century. But this time hope they could learn from the important missteps and right steps of the west when developing. And hold the fortress for humanity to prosper and thrive together!
