"Olive oil is the solution for almost everything." That made me smile, and brought up memories of my English grandmother who had the most beautiful "peaches and cream" complexion of any woman I ever knew. Her secret? She took a small amount of olive oil, warmed it in the palm of her hand, and then applied it to her face before she went to bed. She was almost 80 when she passed away, and she didn't have a wrinkle on her face. She's been gone for over 40 years, and not a day goes by that I don't think of her and miss her.

Original Bavarian (not German!) Brezen (without „L“!) are made without Oil (it makes them repell the Soda brine). The Soda brine doesn’t need to boil and 30 seconds aren’t required because it (the brine) makes the crust and the brown color during baking. One short complete dip into the cold brine works perfectly well. And the egg wash is totally wrong. So, he makes anything else but certainly not Brezen.

I always see people using flour instead of oil to stop the dough sticking. Interesting. How do the Germans get the dark salty crust on the outside though? Yours is not as dark.
