You are wrong! Renovation is the act of repairing something that is broken, worn out, or under specified. Retrofitting is the act of adding something that was missing or left out of the original build.

For examples: Repairing or replacing windows and insulation to upgrade or repair a house is a renovation. Remodeling a kitchen to improve utility or appearance, is another renovation. However, adding air conditioning to a house that never had it is a retrofit. Adding a dishwasher to a kitchen that never had one is a retrofit.
