Focused on technical aspects to much, sure a catchlight is good to have and gives life to the eyes... but in all examples it's the photographers skillset to connect with the subject to get these results. Of course you should get to know your lighting technique and principles, but the key to powerful portraits in these examples has less to do with technical aspects and more with directing and human interactions.
