Holey Slopes -- Moire sculpture by Larry Akers

Overlaid patterns are at the heart of all moire effects. This simply constructed piece achieves the effect by use of a mirrored backdrop, which reflects the patterns of the perforated sheet metal back on itself. Moving around the piece causes the patterns to interact in geometric animation. The sheets are painted different colors, front and back, creating different color combinations in the reflected patterns, based on the angle of view. The curves of the sheets, primarily convex but concave near the edges, create a complex geometry.
