NEST Thermostat - Installing a C-Wire for a Google Nest. It's NOT impossible. Wifi Heating!

A lot of people with heat only systems feel relegated to the "stupid box with the lever" for controlling their temperature. But there's no need- with this sweet trick you can add a Nest thermostat and add the required C-wire (that carries power) to any heating system. Having a Nest thermostat allows you to control your thermostat remotely and even set schedules. Empower yourself and save money (eventually... since you have to spend money on the Nest).

Thank you ! I watched dozens of videos by qualified HVAC guys and none got my Nest up and running. Yours was the only one the attached the two wires together and inserted them into the R slot. That worked for me.

I am an expert DIY'er and this thermostat gave me a run for me money. Google's wiring diagrams were garbage, and this concise, helpful video helped get me to finish line!

For what it's worth, I used the same adapter, but I tied it into my red/black cables at the relay switch for my thermostat (I had a black (C wire) run to the thermostat, but it wasn't in use)). I confirmed that I was getting ~24vac at the thermostat between the red/black wire & I was good to go!

Great video, thanks so much for sharing. I actually followed your instructions to use my Google nest to replace an old fashioned thermostat to control a second zone in the lower level of my house. Thanks for the great tutorial! In the video, does the red wire has to be remained connected to R together with the white wire from the external power? Or it's ok to disconnect the red wire then replace it with the white wire from the external power?

I have a 2 wire old steam boiler system that the local hvac co won’t install any smart thermostats. I had a nest 3 running for about a year till it ran out of battery. Would this solve my problem. Thank you so much

I followed your instruction and got my furnace up and running in no time! Thanks man. I tried running just the adapter to R but it needed both the furance R and adapter R spliced like you did. Is there any harm having 2 24v sources go to the same spot?
