Your words resonate with me, vet care is expensive now! In the past year I have spent $1600 on my 19-year-old baby who rescued himself as a 6-month-old by crying at my back door, he had been dumped. He finally had to be euthanized 2 days ago at a cost of $222. I am not only heartbroken, but I live on a fixed income, so I am also in debt. I didn't have insurance for him because I couldn't afford the monthly payments.
This is a huge problem throughout the world, and there should be some way to get treatment and meds for our animals that doesn't cost a fortune. Our govt subsidizes so many things, some very good, others are very wasteful and expensive. I think there should be some type of subsidy that could be done to assist.

I gasped out loud when that poor cat turned around to reveal a head injury. Foster volunteers are truly wonderful humans and the story of this entire family finding the safety & love they deserve…it just heals my heart. I’ve learned from shelter volunteering how difficult it is to distribute resources—we get hundreds of spay/neuter requests from low income families each month. Everyone’s trying their best; we just have to keep advocating for change. Love you guys. Bless you for speaking out 💕

I believe the biggest issue is the popular misunderstanding of cats. Too many people think cats need to go outside, or worse, think they can survive outside on their own. They believe as long as they remember to leave some food outisde, the cat will do fine. If they remember to feed it. These are the same people who think tying a dog up alone in the back yard for its whole life is also perfectly fine.

I just did this for the first time - reached out to a rescue org near me and became a foster family - our first was a mama and her 4 kittens at 7 weeks old that was being sort-of fed by an old man. My mama cat is so sweet just like this mama. I made a room for them with toys, and soft sleeping area and boxes and they love it. And plenty of people time for socializing. Long story short it's 6 weeks later the first kitten just got adopted to a lovely family with 2 other cats, the mama will get her forever home next week when the kittens are 14 weeks and done nursing, and I am keeping 2 of the kittens with me. I will definitely foster a mama and her kittens again.

We live in a country that can even agree that all humans deserve healthcare, so it doesn't surprise me one bit that in our hyper-capitalist profit driven society where everyone is seen as a commodity and not human, that we can't seem to get our act straight on treating animals better. Seems to me that Mama Latke herself is not much an adult cat. She looks somewhat small and she’s kneading the blanket at 2:16, a teen mom perhaps.
