Helping dogs succeed in training

In the beginning, I cheat to help the dog win when we start something new. Later I cheat to help the dog fail, then help them find the answer. Proofing what you think the dog knows is so important. This is a silly example. Basic, quick, and easy, but think about how many would have physically punished her for not getting it right at the new distance, totally breaking the trust of the dog. If you wanted to teach your dog to go to a place from several hundred yards away it would be very easy to do by doing this

You helped me so much with my first dog 3 years ago, even though we adopted her at 1yrs old she did great. Now we have a chance to train our 7wk old malinois and create that special bond.

Here’s the thing about Larry Krohn- the dogs LOVE to work for him! Look at the dogs... so happy! As someone in the rescue world... thank you! For being an intelligent, down to earth trainer willing to share your insights on the canine world. God bless...

I just really enjoy watching how you teach and interact with your dogs(and any dog) and learn from you. Thank you.

A day ago I quoted you in another video talking about dogs digging in the backyard. I said:
The best advice to prevent all bad behaviors comes from Larry Krohn. "1) The dog sleeps in its crate until they're 1 year old at night no matter how well trained they are. 2) The dog is not left uncrated until they are 2 years old if there is no one around to supervise them." That's of course given that the dog is given then necessary physicals and mental exercises. Bottom-line, if the dog is less than 2 years old and not supervised, they stay in crate. You are one of the best trainers out there my friend.

Great to see when at a certain point you step towards her in a playfull way and she runs away. I do this with my dogs and it helps so much with how they enjoy playing. I chase my dog around the yard sometimes and he has so much fun rather than just throwing a ball for 30 min.

Cool video Larry, I have a question regarding the mini educator. Do they come with different frequencies to avoid any crossover with say two people using the same device in proximity. Would someone else’s control box shock your dog??

Larry, I've discovered you this past month, and watched just about all of your videos, sometimes multiple views. Thank you from a grateful learner. Re ecollars: you emphasize that the dog has to "learn the language" of the e collar; that he has to "learn what it means". I think, to be specific, dog has to translate the mild stimulation as "Refer to Human, " or "Attend to me and not whatever else, " or--how would you put it better? Secondly, I have a 2-yr-old dog I got 3 weeks ago from the Los Angeles County pound; she has turned out to do nuisance hysterical barking--to the level of public nuisance-- if I am gone too long; when I play ran with her yesterday she targeted my arm and that really worries me; and worst of all she is demon dog around all other dogs--65 lbs of raving dog up in the air twisting from her collar. I do not find any video you have done about nuisance barking--(please don't say crate, because no way since a friend's GSD burned up in her crate along with the otherwise empty house in a fire). I watched the Dexter videos, but his situation was different. Yes, I am working on building the trust and doing obedience and how to walk with her. About the nuisance barking? About the targeting of my arm? As to the dog aggression, I am building up to the moment when I can put her new ecollar on her and start the conditioning per your pointers. I know you can't diagnose or treat this way, but still, do you have any suggestions. Sorry to bother. Thanks from Santa Paula, California.
