Phobia test - Part 1 - microscope edition.

Are you disgusted by small holes packed closely together? If so, you may be one of the 15% of the population who has Trypophobia.

This footage shows the underside of a fungus I found while on a bushwalk - The underside pore layer is known as the hymenium - the spore producing layer. After looking at it under the microscope, I knew this would be the perfect test for Trypophobia.

It's not technically a phobia, because you're not actually scared by the holes - rather, you just feel grossed out when you look at them.

This is an interesting 'phobia' and scientists believe that it may stem from a subconscious association with the patterns on some dangerous animals like snakes (skin pattern) or the blue-ringed octopus (rings, loop pattern).

Moreover, it might also be subconsciously linked to disease like measles or chicken pox - which most people would want to avoid.

I remember the time I Google image searched "trypophobia" and it gave me a full on panic attack lol. Hate the words clusters, pores, and spores. Fungi can frick off imo. I'd love to see this as a whole series! Try to freak us out as much as possible that sounds so fun!

Nah, I didn’t feel disgusted. All thanks to med school, the horrible dissections that I had to do in formalin’s disgusting smell, the gluteal region was THE WORST one.
