Also open loops are much more expensive then a decent closed loop which are usually 80-150$

You can actually turn a closed loop into an open loop really easily! Just poke a hole in one of the aio tubes!

There is also other way how to make open loop. I have seen "radiator" utilizing princeple of cooling towers of power plants. It was PVC pipe with tank on botom, side air intake with fan and water sprayers on top. It was able to cool water slightly below ambient temperature. 1 or 2 Celsius if I remember corectly.

I do have to say, I once turned a water cooler into a fish tank. It actually worked as intended.

I’m going AIO, yep never even considered open loops and don’t think I will unless I go back to trucking

First water cooled PC was open loop. Luckily, I had a co-worker who was a pro at them and taught me the ropes. I don't remember AIO's being a thing back then - so I count myself lucky that I got the knowledge to do both.

Id really hope any loop containing water inside my pc would be closed.
I think the correct terms are all in one cooler and custom water cooling.

And I’m sure this has been done/attempted but what about a literal warm aquarium in the pc? Like what if there was a detachable rub that fits between the case and the internals. Throw a fewSMALL tropical fish in there. Just an idea

My aio went dry-ish after 12 years of service. My temps were high and adding fans and new thermal paste did not help. I took apart my kraken aio and discovered a chucky brown liquid and 1/4 empty container. Empty it, added some glycol and water. Reassemble, temps fixed on a budget. 960, never gonna upgrade!!!!

AIOs contain a mostly glycol and water mixture. If they leak or go bad in some way it's a lot more hassle. And yes, they do lose coolant to evaporation eventually. They start at about 130 euro for a decent one.

Open loops, or Full Custom Loops start at around 400 euro for all the stuff you need. They are however much more flexible, it's cheaper to migrate them to a new platform.
And the whole spiel about cleaning them is often exaggerated. If you take a clear coolant, maybe with a UV dye in it, you basically never have to clean it unless the biocide goes wrong.

As for performance Open loops are not worth the money for a basic OC. However they are dead silent when configured properly. So if silence or aesthetics are high on your list it might be worth the extra initial cost.

Honestly open loop really isn't necessary nowadays either.

I've been doing open loop since 2009, back when it was actually necessary at the high end, BUT, there are lots of benefits to open loops, being better temps and less noise but it's really not worth the money unless you're very sensitive to noise really or have been doing it a long time like I have in which case the cost for a modern loop is really just in tubing every few years, coolant (but a 5L jug of DP ultra isn't significant and that'll do a few average standard loops) and blocks which aren't significant, like 200-300 bucks all in for tubing fittings and blocks every 3-5 years at taht point

You can buy an aio kit from Alphacool for your gpu if you want the easier way of doing it.

Close loop actually lose a bit of water over the years due to permeation. They also have much smaller and weaker pumps, so they die quicker.

"warm aquarium" is the best name ever

When you buy an AIO, is the liquid already there? Please answer this someone!!!

I'm never doing a custom loop again....
Unless someone pays me to do it.
I'd rather use an aio.

I find it funny now that when I used to look at water cooled PC I thought damn that must be super hard to get all the pipes in a neat fashion and now after being an electrical apprentice running pvc for cables i look at them and I'm like I bet I could do that
