Everything he’s saying in this video is spot on...

If you’re on the edge on taking the test, best advice is to JUST TAKE IT. I completely put it off for years, until one day I scheduled to take all the tests. Passed 3/4 test. Missed math by 2 points...my brain was a bit fried from all the reading before I got to the math section.

I took 2 practice math test, then went to take the real test again, I guessed on a lot of the stuff I didn’t know like he says in the video, I guess what I know outweighed what I didn’t like he says, and I passed it by 12 points more.

JUST . GO. AND. GET. IT. OVER. WITH

I’m a GED teacher.

I’ve been helping adults, young and old, pass the test for almost 20 years. This video is pretty much real and the advice is solid. A lot of people I’ve helped—most of my students basically—will tell you the same thing about the tests. However, Mr Garcia-Garth here does a very good job breaking it down. I’m sure the “No Studying” part hooked people into watching, but I’d say he lied! He actually did study quite a bit! The time he took to research and prepare for the tests, the obvious planning and thought put into it, not to mention previous education in school or in life, that all counts as “studying” and it probably made the difference.

Here are 5 thoughts for people watching this who are thinking about taking the GED tests and wondering if they can pass them.

1. Check first to make sure you’re in a state that uses the GED for High School Equivalency. There are other tests out there now (HiSET and TASC) and the tests and rules differ by state in the U.S.

2. Like the man says, take a practice test before you schedule the official test! It’s not too expensive and you can do it on your computer at home. Afterwards, use the score report to focus your preparation for the real thing.

3. Don’t just buy an expensive book or study program and expect it to work if you’re the kind of person who doesn’t have the patience and discipline to study on your own. And watch out for scams offering quick GED results and easy diplomas. They’re all over the Internet and they’re worthless. They just want to take your money.

4. You can do it on your own, but it’s easier if you get help and get guidance. A lot of young guys especially have a tough time asking for help when it comes to school and things they’re not good at. I’d just say don’t let your pride stop you. If you find you can’t pass on your first try, look for a class (a lot of them are free, offered in-person or online) or find a tutor.

5. I make my livelihood teaching GED (and I love it) but I’ll be the first to tell you: passing the tests is NOT the same as getting a High School education! What I’m saying is that real learning, a strong knowledge base and the ability to think clearly and critically, can be measured somewhat by a test, but it’s much more than a passing score. Being an educated person has so many benefits socially, psychologically, and economically. The thing is getting an education takes time... years and years! So you can probably get the GED tests done in a month or two if you have a solid foundation in school and at least an 8th grade reading and math level, but the degree you receive is a just a piece of paper unless it represents the lived experience of earning an education.

To Mr Garcia-Garth: I appreciate this video, your honesty and the time you took to make it. I congratulate you on achieving the milestone and sincerely hope you use the GED as a key to open doors to future opportunities.

Last thought:

>>> IF YOU’RE IN HIGH SCHOOL NOW AND THINKING ABOUT DROPPING OUT AND TAKING THE GED, GIVE IT SOME SERIOUS THOUGHT. It might seem like an easy way out now, but most people I know who’ve done it come to regret their decision. School often sucks, no doubt! but take it from a former dropout, sticking with it *if at all possible* pays off!

what gets me is I spent 6 hard months studying for the math part, and when I got to the testing center I still felt like I was quessing at most of the questions.. I ran out of time as well because I had a lot of word problems. I didnt answer 8 questions. I was like well I failed. But to my surprise I still passed with a 154. Taking the science test today.. Got a 162 on the practice test so I'm going for it. Thanks for sharing your story.

I was enlisted into the Navy and it was the day before I went to MEPS that I found out my high school diploma was not valid because my homeschool was a scam and was part of a diploma mill.... it really sucks because now I have to get my GED to continue to get into the military. I have no idea where to even begin but after watching your video I’m confident and reassured that I will pass and get my GED. Thank you for your time to make this video! I’m gonna take my practice exam soon

Hey man, I wanted to say thank you. I needed to get my GED for that awesome job. While looking for study videos I came across this one. You gave me so much confidence to just take these tests that have been haunting me since 2008. 2 days after I saw this video I took my first test and passed. The next 3 were the same, I passed math today to complete my GED. Thank you so much for this video.

Don’t give up guys, and believe in yourself!

I love the charisma this video contains, it’s really a nice on. I saw other recommendations through the YouTube comment sessions tho which made me reach out to stray, and thanks to that encounter I now got a GED of my own…
