Just a tip... there's stuff called cosmoline created specifically for this purpose... long-term storage of metal parts. Most-often used for gun storage. It's basically petroleum jelly.

I'm looking for a method that would stop the inside of a drain cast iron pipe to stop rusting. Do you think a rubber coating would help such as flex seal or plasti dip would work? I'm open to suggestions?

Silicia Gel ball bags are better than rice, those little white teabag things in the box when you buy something made of metal, good for a toolbox

Also Metal spray paint after sanding off the rust. Painted metal like on cars, doesn't rust, only when the paint is chipped off so just sand the rust off again and paint.
