Posterity has cast Adolf Hitler as a ruthless warlord and inspired strategist. His blitzkrieg victory over France, Europe's leading military power, stunned the world and completed the Third Reich's conquest of Western Europe. But the Führer may have had the intuition, but he was not the author of the victorious and unprecedented campaign plan.

Hitler was certainly a war leader. But his pride and his mortifying ideology blinded him. In the course of the conflict, the self-proclaimed strategist turned out to be an amateur whose mistakes plunged Germany into the abyss of disaster.

18:22 "Its the world's first genocidal war." Ah, no its not. The first one documented but definitely NOT the first.

What brought down Hitler was his pride in my opinion. He thought he was unstoppable. Starting war with Russia AND America was just foolish and he clearly completely underestimated them both. Germany was TINY in comparison. They never had a chance.

Crazy that he had some of the greatest generals yet listened to none.

What separates this documentary with others is the tempo of voice over. Calm & confident while majority of nowadays documentary talks like fast train, with no interval & punctuation. They seem afraid not to be heard or left by audience.

this is actually horrific, my grandma was alive, still is, in the times of Hitler, she was a child yet got traumatized for life. She saw and lived through her friends getting murdered, she had to hide, people she knew were being sent to Siberia, few years back she told me all about it, her life is pretty insane and sad. Her father died in the war as she told. TW: She also told me this one thing I can't get off my mind, she was clear about the details, snow was always as high as her knees, it was extremely cold, she was walking with a few other kids she used to know, they found something shiny in or on the snow I don't recall, she wanted to go for a toilet break, obviously they were in a forest so there was nowhere to go, so she went further and hid behind the trees, while her friends I guess, were looking at the thing, little did they know it was a bomb, I have no idea of how it worked or what it was, but after they picked it up or triggered it somehow, they blew up. She came back, lucky to be alive, after hearing the blow just to find pieces of her friends bodies that were left, she told me more details about the body parts and gore but I'm not gonna talk about it.

Honestly she's really strong and not even my related grandma, but since I live with her I count her as one, her life is horrifying, but all she says is that it's real.

How can Hitler have had NO military training when he was a front line soldier in WW1 and won the German Iron Cross?

Literally the best ww2 or documentary ive seen ever, it properly delivers the best ending showing how devastating the end of the war was for all sides.

Pretty good documentary, however one issue that arises from using existing documentaries that contain errors as source material is the perpetuation of those errors. Manstein did not single-handedly create the 'sickle-stroke' invasion plan - he had the idea for it in basic form, but worked out its fine details with Guderian. Manstein was never a tank commander and he needed Guderian to shape the plan into something feasible for tanks. Furthermore, having Guderian sign off on the plan increased its validity as a real option with the OKW.

That famous sequence of the Panzer 1 driving through the river is footage from a training exercise, not the battle. There is some footage here purportedly showing motorized divisions moving toward France during the first stages of the invasion, however in fact that footage is Ewald von Kleist's motorized divisions in the Soviet Union during the battle of the Sea of Azov.
