This guide works on all “NEW” 3ds and 2ds models that are firmware version 11.17 on JAP EUR & USA devices! Korea did not receive the latest update and it also works for that region.

If you receive this error when pressing "GO GO" : "An error has occured. Please save your data in any software currently in use, then restart the system."

The date is set incorrectly. To set it correctly, follow these steps:

Select the System Settings icon on the HOME Menu, and tap Open.
Tap Other Settings.
Tap Date & Time.
Tap Today’s date.
Tap Up/Down Arrows to set the correct Day, Month and Year.
Select OK to confirm.
"An error has occured. Please save your data in any software currently in use, then restart the system."

I updated my 2ds to 11.17.0 and I was scared that I would never be able to mod it again but thank God that there still is a way.

I have to tell you I’ve NEVER done anything like this before, but it was so smooth and easy to follow! I used my Surface pro 7 to mod my new 2DS.
My 2DS was at 11.14 so I updated it to 11.17 then started following the tutorial.
The only problem I had was in the beginning while formatting the SD card to FAT32. I used a SONY 128GB, which means I needed to use guiformat to change format. The error at last click kept happening & I kept restarting my PC, then I realized I should just close the file explorer before hitting “start”. When I did that it successfully changed the format to FAT32. Then the rest was EXACTLY like the video.
I still can’t believe I successfully followed the tutorial. Thank you so much!.

EDIT: I try to reply but for some reason I can’t, anyway: after you mod your device, just look for “how to download hShop” and follow the tutorial by Funkyscott. You can then install any game you want from the hShop directly in your device and won’t need your computer after that! :)

Dude you are my hero. I thought I was totally screwed since both my New 3DS XL and 2DS XL were on the most recent update. This guide was super easy to follow I basically just listened as I navigated the menus just as you described and everything worked perfect. Your Hstore video was excellent as well. I am finally able to play the game Nintendo won’t allow me to buy.

Hey, when I do the same as 7:41, the screen becomes pink but then it crashes and says “An error has occurred. Hold down the POWER Button to turn off the power, then turn it on and try again.” I’ve repeated this at least 10 times and it still doesn’t work. Does anyone know the problem ?

Very important for those who are having the ""An error has occurred. Please save your data in any software currently in use, then restart the system." Besides following the video make sure if you're in Europe to set Region at the beginning of the formatting menu "United Kingdom" even if you're not from the UK. Don't set any province afterwards, leave it just UK. I was having that error and it instantly worked for me

Hey i followed the tutorial exactly but when trying use the website (alround 6:33)on the internet browser it didnt work it also had a popup about a error code (012-1505) and after i pressed accept and the "GO GO!" it just said "text"(in german) can anybody tell me what i did wrong i tried some other things and thats always the problem :( (I didnt know what it meant but there was also a little lock in the middle of the upper screen that had a red cross on it)

7:49 When I tried this, it didn’t work, but instead of restarting the console I did it again and it worked. Hope this helps other people!

Edit: when I was doing this, the ‘essential’ file wasn’t there, but I just continued without it and it worked.

I just wanna say how flawless this guide is. You did an amazing job with it. You speak and move patiently with enough time for us to do the things to your 3DS without getting left behind by a fast tutorial.

For my New 3DS XL V. 17.50 software:
I just wanna note that I didn’t have to do anything to the WiFi things prior to bootstrap9. The selection screen never showed to select ports & WiFi happened to connect automatically. So if anyone out there gets thrown off by not seeing that sequence; don’t worry about it and do all of the other steps exactly how he did. It worked out great for me and I’m currently copying all of my physical cartridges to my brand new modded DS!! Thank you bro!!!!
