Bonus tip: Deselect 'Active Sources Only' in the bottom left corner in order to change these settings for sources that aren’t currently active.

It works using a generic HDMI cable and my Switch! Thank you! (You also have to make sure the mic is on with Microphone > Allow apps to access your microphone)

thanks .. maybe I was getting confused but it also seemed like after changing the advanced audio properties and setting the monitoring device (in general settings) I had to restart OBS - but then it worked, thanks
