Civil 3D 2024 New Feature! – Improved .PKT File Management

Показать описание
For more than a decade, Civil 3D has included a tool called Subassembly Composer for the creation of custom subassembly parts. While custom parts are extremely valuable, they often present challenges when updates are required or when drawings using them are shared with others. Now, in Civil 3D 2024, custom subassemblies can be managed as easily as an external reference.

hi bartels, thank you so much for sharing this, this feature solved another big problem we were facing while sharing the file with another.

Yet another excellent presentation. This feature is a significant reason to upgrade to 2024.

Exellent Video! Do you know if pkt files can be saved to and pathed from Projectwise?

Hi Jeff, thank you very much for your video. I know it is 2 years old now but it is just now that we'll apply this principle in my organization. The big question I have is, if we created a custom tool palette, with custom icons and groups (separation). If the subs are deployed to a new project space (for example another ACC project), will users importing this tool palette (via .xtp file) still be able to use it? Since the subs are now located in another path, not sure if this will work? Do you have any thoughts on this? Many thanks!

Nice option! There is a trick if you import your revised pkt and then delete the old one from the toolpallet, then copy your existing assembly, it recreates the copied assembly from the new pkt and maintains the parameters of the old assembly!

BIM managers might like the new feature, makes it easier to control libraries

@Jeff this is great another thing to add that would be great is to be able to give a fixed width of the subassembly. In our country culverts are 1.225 m sections and everythime we have to go and manully set that up in the corridor so it displays correctly. Would be great if you can set this in the subassembly composer as a fixed value

Great video as always, thanks. Is there any limitations on the locations of the pkt files?

Now corridors are almost useful! You just need to fix all the bigger problems with corridors... like making surface boundaries from corridor boundaries actually work when a corridor has more than one region. Or making it so we can clear bowties on an alignment that has more complicated geometry than a single straight line for 5 miles.

When I tried to modify a subassembly in composer 2024, I get an error message when I try to "save" or even "Saveas" another name it get the following message: "The process cannot access the file "G:\filename.pkt" because it is being used by another process" I haven't seen this in previous version of SAC and haven't found a silver bullet answer on the net. Any suggestions?
