Speaking to reporters Tuesday outside Rideau Cottage in Ottawa, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced a federal contract with General Motors (GM) to produce 10 million face masks and help employment in Oshawa, Ont.

Trudeau said not only is more personal protective equipment arriving in Canada from elsewhere, his government is investing in production here at home.He adds more than 40 flights carrying PPE have arrived in the last 10 weeks, with hundreds of thousands of items then shipped to front-line workers.

As well, Trudeau addressed the report from Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) teams deployed to five of Ontario's worst-hit long-term care homes, raising concerns about poor conditions at this facilities.

Speaking to reporters Tuesday outside Rideau Cottage in Ottawa, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau admitted CAF members had raised some "extremely troubling observations" and vowed to take action to protect the "Greatest Generation."

Trudeau also said the time was now for Canada to lead the global effort to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, pointing to a Thursday conference call hosted by himself, the UN Secretary-General, and the Prime Minister of Jamaica on coordinating a global response to the pandemic.

Maybe you shouldn’t have given away 16 tonnes of our masks to 🇨🇳 to begin with? This should be a story of incompetence. Not something to celebrate like a smart move...🤦‍♂️

Yesterday there were 148 covid patients in Ontario ICU. And only 104 of those were on ventilators. We have over 2000 ventilator equipped beds across Ontario. We are using this small fraction of our ventilator supply this ENTIRE 'pandemic'. %82 of covid deaths are infections from long term care. We cancelled the majority of elective surgeries, even though Surgery and Recovery are separate from ICU. Think about that. I think the Federal Government simply failed in catastrophic proportions to maintain the PPE emergency stockpile, which is their duty. We allowed China to pillage our PPE from local supplies not federally managed (before they even announced human to human transmission). And we sent more PPE to them also. Now, no hospital in Ontario has enough PPE stockpiled to proceed with resuming electives, which the ministry is requiring hospitals to do. Thunder Bay is the first hospital to apply to resume electives, they are clearly Not a hotspot and have sufficient ppe to do electives... But the Federal government failed the entire country and now we are all suffering every day because of insufficient PPE. Its been Months and we still have not NEARLY enough to go around and fill our current needs. NDP have charged Liberal Feds with breach of duty.

Omg, these reports were not shocking to anyone, for at least the last 20 years governments have been well aware of the squaller of private long term care homes, but they did nothing, now the Military is sent in and they are the knight in shining armor, give me a break, staff and families and unions have been on this for decades to no avail, they are underpaid understaffed working in dilapidated buildings, and doing the best they can with what they have, 20 years ago I worked in nursing through an agency and some homes they sent me to, omg, I told them don't ever call me to work there again, I just can't believe how Freeland and ford are praising the armed forces when they have seen these reports for years and did nothing, no added funding no new equipment, my god staff would literally bring in clothes, stockings, deodorant, and other essentials on there own dime for residents, and now these staff are going to be the scapegoats while the military is praised beyond belief, it's the staff who have to work under these conditions, sometimes 1 staff responsible for 80 patients, give your heads a shake, of course they will never admit to it being thier short comings, and that's exactly what they are doing, all shocked my a*s, and the staff who have to work in these conditions will be the fall guys what else is new, but for God's sake do not act surprised, at least if you listen to the military then changes will be made, but make no mistake the military are not telling them anything they don't know, and ford says the report is gut wrenching, ya it's gut wrenching to know you ppl have known this for decades and did nothing

Every politician currently leading their parties need to go. This has been handled so poorly and disgracefully. These rich silver spoon boys dont know anything about the average citizen in their country except how to look down on them.
