26 Different Arabic Qurans: Explained and Unpacked (Hatun Tash and Jay Smith)

At Speakers' Corner, on Sunday, August 7, 2016, Jay Smith and Hatun Tash displayed 26 Arabic Qur'ans, which had thousands of textual variants.

The mostly Arabic speaking crowd who listened to them became extremely agitated and angry, as this material goes against everything they have been taught.

Because of the volatility of Speaker's Corner, and because the material Jay and Hatun were introducing was quite technical and difficult to communicate, especially to an angry crowd, they announced from the ladder that they would be posting a follow-up video that would not only explain what they were saying at Speakers' Corner, but also show the actual changes which we can find in the written Arabic between two of the 26 Arabic Qur'ans on display (the Hafs and the Warsh versions).

In this video, Jay and Hatun discuss some of the differences found in two of the 26 different Arabic Qur'ans.

We hope that with this video you can better understand what Jay and Hatun are trying to communicate, and that it will begin a debate about the preservation of the Qur'an and about why Muslim leaders lie to their followers about their most cherished book.

My Pakistani friend told me many years ago that when he went to Mecca for his Haji, Saudi border guards confiscated his koran and gave him free copy of their own. He never understood why. This video answers that mistery.

Is she turkish? Guys lets appreciate how converts to Christianity from Islam have been increasing so sharply in Turkey. I am also a Turkish convert and when I attend mass the church is packed with converts. (Almost all of us).

David, from those of us at Pfanderfilms, a big 'Thank you' for putting this more sedate and quiet rendition of the talk on 26 Qur'ans on your site.

While it is important that we use a venue like Speaker's Corner to introduce this very damaging material to Muslims publicly, it is just as important that it be understood properly, and thus the need for studio talks like this one, so that your subscribers can assimilate it, and then be able to use it properly with their Muslim friends.

God bless all the good work that you do.

Proud to be on the same team

I have watched the full video and honestly I am amazed. Looks like what I was told was a lie. I was not aware about all those little differences. But to be honest, it would be truly a miracle if it would be just one Quran. I was told that at the beginning Quran was hardly memorized. And with human memory can be different. We can forget things. Memorizing whole Quran is a big thing. No doubt there are so many differences. Thank you for sharing this.

There are anywhere from 4 to 9 original copies of the original Koran but we can't find any of them. That's an example of Islamic perfection. LOL

My favourite variant is in 18:86. You have one reading where the sun sets in a muddy (hami'a حَمِئَةٍ) spring and another where it sets in a hot (hamiya حَامِيَةٍ) spring. In the early years there was debate over whether the spring was muddy or hot, but no one questioned the astronomy! Tabari records this in his tafsir for this verse: "When the Almighty says, ‘Until he reached, ’ He is addressing Zul-Qarnain. Concerning the verse, ‘the place of the setting of the sun he found it set in a spring of murky water, ’ the people differed on how to pronounce that verse. Some of the people of Madina and Basra read it as ‘Hami’a spring, ’ meaning that the sun sets in a spring that contains mud. While a group of the people of Medina and the majority of the people of Kufa read it as, ‘Hamiya spring’ meaning that the sun sets in a spring of warm water. The people of commentary have differed on the meaning of this depending on the way they read the verse."

What I love about Jay is that he is very respectful to Hatun and always give credits to her when the credit is due. Good teacher and mentor. And Hatun is a very brave and yet gentle in heart.

I'm honestly surprised that this hasn't received more views than it has already! I thought it would be on at least 500, 000, 000 views at this point in time

The arabs used to write without vowels and dots, but then it got added so that everyone can understand, and those things doesn't change the meaning. There are many readings of quran which are all released from Allah. They are not corruption.
