How To Convert a Gas Grill To a Flat Top Griddle

I'm running out of space, but wanted a flat top grill. My dad came to the rescue and sent me a flat top griddle that fits on top of my Genesis E-330. Having never used a flat top griddle, I had to learn from scratch. Luckily my dad was there to help me get it started right.

I make two meals : 1 big breakfast and fajitas with peppers, onions, and ribeye. That was enough to put it through its paces and give it a test.

I got a 1/4" piece of flat steel scrap from a machine 17x24" threw a farmer friend. I baked it out side in a camp fire overnight to burn off any impurities. I seasoned/cured it and have been using that over my charcoal grill for the last 11 years. If you know a farmer they have this laying around, if you live in the city then you are limited to and controlled by what stores offer.

Thanks for leaving comments on. Was actually looking for easy to convert stove top to grill. Main area of concern is something that will radiate heat for even all over surface grilling

I tried 2 different griddles on my old Weber Genesis Silver and gave up. The temps were never consistent. My choice would be to use a multiple round gas burner unit.

This is exactly what I've been looking into man. I have 2 Weber Kettles so my gasser isn't getting much action at all, and hasn't been for a while. I'd love to turn it into a dedicated griddle for veggies, smash burgers and the like. I've seen this model and several others, but I always wonder about one thing; Can any of them live outside. I don't have the space (or the desire) to take it inside after every cook. Is that model able to stay on your grill all the time?

I would be interested in seeing if removing the flame tamers over the burners would increase the griddle temp. Thanks for the vid

I've tried a couple of these before but didn't really care for them. Maybe one day I will add a griddle to my arsenal.

Just got the same griddle today. Instead of flaxseed oil can I use canola oil? I see some YouTubers using it for stainless steel griddle to season...

How is grease management? The dedicated ones have a hole that drains into the grease catch can. How does this type handle grease?

nice presentation.... how come your griddle does not buckle? I have the same one and always does that... suggestions?

Have you tried using it with out the grill grates? Maybe adding some metal bars to elevate the griddle. Might make for better results.

I have the same grill, and would like to get that griddle. Can you tell me what model you used?

Convert your gas grill to use lava rocks and then use the flat top. That should cure your heating issues with the lid open.

Thank you for your review. I was considering this or some kind of cast iron for my Weber Genesis 3 burner. How sturdy is it? I have read reviews that the SS is thin? Thank you

Pretty sure you shouldn't season stainless steel. That's probably why it was sticking first up.
