Sir but I still don't get why the transfer of electrons and formation of cho group cannot happen for alpha and beta glucopyranose. there too the structure around C1 is similar to that in lactose and maltose. please explain. thanks.

What happens when alpha -D-glucose combine with apha -D-galactose and in lactose there is always beta1-4-glycosidic linkage. Please reply with explanation.
