Dr John Newman is a professor at the Buck Institute and at University of California, San Francisco. He hopes to translate what we are learning of the pathways that control aging into therapies to improve the health and independence of older adults. His research at the Buck studies the molecular details of how diet regulate the pathways that control aging, with a focus on ketone bodies.

Refreshing to hear from a practicing gerontologist. Far more interesting and credible to learn a practioner’s experience and thinking. I know the usual benefits of ketones and ketosis but after listening to another podcaster and his guest discuss the rampant use of ketone esters in the pro cycling circuit I have a renewed interest. They do primarily use them pre race as a performance enhancer but a number of them use them pre bed as a means to heal and repair and lessen the impact of long term inflammation. As a plus 60 guy…that is fascinating. Can’t wait to learn more. Thanks, Richard

Another great guest, Richard! I'm very interested in this topic, looking forward to the rest of the series, thank you!

Love the topic. One correction to note. While gluconeogenesis does, in essence, convert protein to glucose; it does not get all that protein from muscle. There are many sources of protein in your body.

Interesting video, but you didn't really get into how ketones effect aging...

How long a fast, at minimum, is required to result in ketone body formation?
