The New Zealand Tweed is a unique and rare pedigree guinea pig (cavy) breed that achieved full show standards in 2016, by the New Zealand Cavy Judges Association.

We use the word 'unique' to describe pedigree breeds that were created In New Zealand. The Tweed was created by NZ cavy judge Christa Krey from satin solid-coloured cavies that carried the hidden gene that was imported in the 1980's. They are named a Tweed as the overall effect is that of Tweed material, an even intermingling of chocolate and white hair all over body and head. They look rather nice in the satin variety, which shines and shimmers.

The gold tweeds are Chocolate Agouti tweeds so the Chocolate still get silverd by the tweed gene, and the gold doesnt. I breed them in the UK
