The vast regional differences in Germany never cease to amaze me! Never heard of Schnitzbrot, Granatsplitter or Magenbrot.

I'm from the North of Germany - never heard of a few of them! The verity in different regions is astounding ❤

Just a small correction; Magenbrot has it's Name from the different spices which all have a benefit for an upset stomach. But i can see why a lot of people think its because of the shape. 😂

Italian here, glad to hear panettone is popular in Germany as well, plus your pronunciation of "panettone" was so accurate. Hugs from Rome ❤️

I'm a 26 year old german gal and I've never seen Schnittbrot, Magenbrot or the leftover cake! Goes to show how diverse local traditions are in our (comparatively) small country 😲

There’s also „Spekulatius“ and „Dominosteine“
Germans eat that too

Granatsplitter is normally made with alcohol, not milk, so don't be surprised when you go to the bakery and get one that tastes like a whole distillery 😅

I did not know before either and that was not a pleasent surprise 🙈 now I make my own with leftover cookies and coconut or almond sirup :)

I love to hear you say 'Vanillekipferl' 🥰

In Czechia, Christstollen is also quite common - normally called štola here and based off the Dresden version - the vánočka is also very similar, including in its symbolism (both stollen and vánočky are supposed to represent the baby Jesus in a bundle). Panettone is also becoming popular, at least in Prague. Vanillekipferl is vanilkové rohlíčky here, and they are as ubiquitous as linecké koláčky (linzer cookies), even more popular than včelí úly (bee hives cookies) which are made with cacao and butter on a savoyard biscuit base filled with liquer. Gingerbread is also traditional, with gingerbread from Pardubice being the most famous.

Panetone is also super popular here in Brazil, along with it's chocolate variations

That’s a HUGE stollen!!! 😦🫢
We love a lot of German marzipan, especially dark chocolate coated logs & orange flavoured marzipan bites 🥰

My sister is visiting from Texas, I live in Florida. Our parents were British born and raised but I came here in my 20’s and my sister in her 40’s. However we still cling firmly to the British customs of Plum pudding(Christmas pudding) Mince pies, Fine Scottish Shortbread, rich Christmas cake with marzipan and Royal icing. (This is nothing like the American version by the way) All served with delicious Port or Sherry from Spain. Along with all the food which I ordered from England, I ordered a dozen Crackers, not the edible kind but the ones you pull with a partner. They go off with a bang and split revealing a paper hat, a prize and a poem and joke. Our native countries traditions are precious and should be kept as the memories made keeping them would be treasures lost without them.
