I love the fact that in the fallout creation club there is a powerarmor skin that is covered in toy horses making it a literal horse armor

sidenote: whilst this was not ACTUALLLY a dlc, it may have well been one of the first, long before home console were uber popular. There a Dungeons and Dragons arcade game, (2 actually, i believe this is the first one im speaking of) where there was this uber powerful sword for the fighter where it would hurt you when you touched it, and you had to kill yourself on it, (and also buy back in) about 4 times i want to say, so you would have to spend an extra dollar or two in order to be able to use that sword for the rest of that session

My favorite thing about that is if you put the armor on Shadowmare who is supposed to be immortal it removes that so the armor makes the best horse in the game just like any other horse

I can't believe instead companies looking at the backlash and saying "maybe we should use that" instead they went "we should make that our strategy for the next 10 years."

Skyrim: All you have to do is wait a decade, then you get it for free.

Dlc is way older than that, and it doesn't take much research to figure that out

You do realize that without the Horse Armor's success, we wouldn't have seen Nights of the Nine or Shivering Isles.

At least when you bought horse armor you got horse armor. These days you buy a dice to roll and pray you get horse armor, only to end up with horseshoe engravings instead

It was so infamously stupid that "horse armor" was a catch-all term for these types of purely cosmetic paid DLCs.

Yes and no, dlcs started with the 6th Gen consoles with noticeably extra content that can be downloaded on ninja Gaiden Xbox. The 360 was the start of paid dlc as long as you don't count expansions as dlc

It actually gives double health to the horses.

To be fair the armor was supposed to actually improve the survivability of your horse but due to a glitch it provided 0 defense. The fact that to this day bethesda hasnt fixed this is a whole other problem, though

I remember this, it is what got me into downloading games/DLC. Later final fantasy 15(I think) and gran tourism 6 caused me to not buy any games the week or even first few months of release.

Really popularized became this with tf2 and the invention of lootboxes. Even tho oblivion may have been the first one to bring buyable cosmetics, I think it's still better than gambling through my money to "maybe" getting this one nice skin I wanted. Also it was only 2, 50$
