This scene makes me so emotional. While the show is fictional, this scene is very very real for so many people.

You know every old black actor in this scene really felt her speech because they lived through it.

I’m no American to say this, but the way she said “racism is built into the DNA of America” is nothing more can be powerful than this speech!

I presented this speech for my law school PowerPoint presentation closing. Thank you, Viola Davis, for addressing the fact that the 6th Amendment right to counsel is well overdue since 1791. Gideon v. Wainwright (1963) resulted in 2000 prisoners being set free and the creation of The Legal Aid Society. However, today there are 2.3 million incarcerated, 6.8 million on parole, and 70 million with a criminal record. There is much more work to be done.

The quieter her voice became, the louder her message rang. The words had power all on their own.
I always wondered if she did this in one take. If all present on set that day had previously heard this speech in its entirety cause, it made the hair on my arms rise. That was a mighty powerful speech.

One of my favorite quote she said “the only safe guard people of color have is the right to a defense, and we won’t even give them that” THAT RIGHT THERE IS POWERFUL

A question for the American people watching the show: how did you react to Annalise's statement "racism is built into the DNA of America"?

I remember this scene really well it was where she was deciding before whether she'd drink and honestly i think she could of done the speech even if she had been drinking. It was amazing she chose not to drink though.

"Racism is built into the DNA of America" this line is one of the most powerful lines ever said in a TV series that carries a lot of stories, pain, violence, injustice, suffering... unfortunately 'til now .
