Was the ending of season 3 really a setup to more episodic storytelling, OR a cleaning of the slate to make an easy jumping-on point for a bigger (theatrical) audience? To jump on now, the *only thing* audiences need to know is Din and Grogu are a dad-and-son duo who go on adventures… and everyone *does* know that!

Alex, you said my thoughts exactly. I mean, I'll love to see Mando and Grogu on the big screen and all the reasons you point out for making the movie are valid, but something about this announcement feels weird. I'll leave my final judgement after I've watched the movie and Season 4 (if there's one)

I agree with the business move over creative move vibes coming from the announcement. I’m interested into what story warrants a movie to them since we just saw them fighting to regain their home planet on the small screen. Personally I’m going to have to actually see a trailer or something like that before I really get too excited/interested.

Personally i think having a mandoverse movie before the HTTE is a good choice. It helps build up for this big event. Especially if the film ends with direct links to that story.

Super excited for Ahsoka season 2. Thought the first season was great despite a few flaws.

I hope a lot of the online discourse around the series will push the team behind it in a positive way to make the second season as good as possible

If this is gonna be the season 4 replacement, I’m cool with it if it means a larger and bigger budget story with Mando, Grogu and friends on the big screen. Heck maybe they might have money to show off helmetless Pedro Pascal lol.

I do hope the title they gave is just a temporary one though. The Mandalorian & Grogu is straight to the point if dull. Also happy Ahsoka S2 is confirmed.

It’s really hard to not feel cynical about this, Disney really can’t take a hint sometimes and they’ve been making all the wrong decisions with their movies lately. But I hope Jon Favreau is able to make a great story in spite of all of that and still retain creative control over his vision for these characters

Yeah I agree.
But The Mandalorian is a HUGE attraction .
It also explains why they released the first two seasons on home video.

I do love their adventures on Disney+ but I think this is ultimately going to be for the benefit of the larger fandom. Reception for a Rey follow-up was always going to be mixed at best. To reintroduce SW movies with her was just asking for more division. Starting things off with Grogu on the other hand is a great way to bring people back in and set up future events. Super stoked for whatever this turns out to be!

I agree that this movie existing feels more like a business decision than a creative one. But as long as it's a decent story, I'll be alright.

All I have to say is we better get more live action Zeb in this one if it's gonna be on the big screen. He looked amazing in the series, but we didn't get nearly enough of him.

If they’re doing a movie, they should do Mando, Grogu, Ahsoka, and the Ghost crew finally stopping Thrawn and showing the surviving Imperial ships going into the Unknown Regions so we could see how the First Order was formed.

I bet Mollie is so stoked right now to see Grogu on the big screen.

I think this movie first before the Rey one is the right move and I am really excited about it and Ahsoka S2. If Luke, Leia and Han are in this I think it makes a billion dollars.

I am very excited about this news... I have a feeling this will be a good way to make it so Din & Grogu won't have to be center stage in future New Republic based series/stories... as whose to say there isn't a new unannounced limited series in the works that is sort of a remixed version of whatever Rangers of the New Republic was going to be that takes place after the events of Mando season 3 and puts us smack dab in the middle of the New Republic dealing with the return of Ezra and Thrawn and his involvement with the Imperial remnants set up at the end of Ahsoka Season 1.... Maybe The Mandalorian Season 4 is being retooled to be about the efforts to rebuild Mandalor.... and all of this will lead up to Dave Filoni's movie, which would inevitably see the return of Din & Grogu if they didn't show up prior to it.

Ahsoka seaason 2, I think should (and hope will) be a singular adventure focusing on Ahsoka, Sabine, Shin and Baylan and how (at least) Ahsoka and Sabine end up getting back to help fight Thrawn....

i definitely reacted with cautious optimism when i first heard the news, but you brought up an excellent point about how the X-Files had a movie in the middle of its series and it went well. what i hope this ends up being is like when the old serials would have big blockbuster movie events that aren't necessarily a more important story, but just a bigger one that doesn't entirely interrupt the series but compliments it with a blockbuster outing. i honestly wouldn't mind a single mando and grogu movie that's just a fun blockbuster adventure on the big screen ahead of season 4, a chance to just have fun being a movie before going back to its regular serial format !!
