Imagine - that horrid dyspepsia described so often in the book is now alleviated by Prilosec or Nexium (which is one of two ingredients in Prilosec). I don’t know why I thought of that, but I did.

Terrible narrator. No inflection, no variation of intensity him no indication of emotional content. A computer couldn't do it any better. I guess he was trying to emulate an old-time robot reading a book. It's really quite a shame as I very much like this author and his Richard Haney books. But I just cannot listen to this.

I'm finding the narration a little difficult to handle.
And that WWI idea of wanton massacres being acceptable, on behalf of a patriotic cause hasn't aged very well.
No. I doubt I'll get past the first hour of listening to this. It's substandard on so many levels that I fail to see the point.
Specially after reading the ASHENDEN stories, by W Somerset Maugham, also set during WWI - but with far more depth than this boys own bloodbath for King and Country propaganda.
