Just cause your biceps and forearms are working more doesn’t mean your lats work less

whilst the neutral grip does activate more of the bicep/brachioradialis, it doesnt decrease lat stimulus.
in fact, it trains the lat via shoulder extension, through a GREATER range of motion than a wide-grip adduction based pulldown with the traditional bar.

it's a solid alternative with more upsides than downsides

Nah I love neutral grip pull downs and pull ups. If anything it allows you to overload your lats because you can use more forearm/bicep to move the weight. Granted, still have control and feel the stretch- but I destroy my lats doing close grip pull downs twice a week

I do both, I superset it at the end of back day with cable bicep curls to fry the biceps since ive already taxed my lats and traps through:
3 x15 barbell rows,
6 x 15-8 traditional lat pulldown,  pyramiding up and back down in weight 3 increasing weight, 3 decreasing weight
3 x 15 dumbbell bicep curls,  
3 x 8 barbell shrugs
4 x 12 cable lateral raise
4 x 15 rear delt fly
3 x 15 each cable bicep curls superset w/close grip lat pulldown

Quite a bit of total volume, per my Apple Watch my average HR stays in the 130-136 BPM range for the entire 55-70 minutes, but Monday and Thursday splits keep me fresh, along with elastic band mobility training in between days to work out soreness and maintain ROM

I used a very narrow neutral grip for the first time today, which is in a small v angle. atx brand. I have never felt my lats so well. I really felt like I wasn't using my arms at all, I was pulling everything on my back. I got a amazing feeling and I can't wait for the next back day

if you’re doing a pulldown like in the video, it’s more redundant because you’re already doing that kinda movement with rows. better to include a wide grip pullup or pulldown instead

To work the lat, use the neutral narrow grip with elbow close to your side or use the narrow grip bar supinate grip. The wide grip lat pull down is more mor mid back.
