"We made a promise to ourselves at the beginning of the process that we weren't going to put any of our own politics, our own messages or our own themes into these movies. What we were trying to do was to analyze what was important to Tolkien and to try to honor that. In a way, we were trying to make these films for him, not for ourselves." Peter Jackson

"It felt only natural to us that an adaptation of Tolkien's work would reflect what the world actually looks like." - Lindsey Weber, E.P. Amazon's LOTR Series

Peter Jackson - "There are certainly themes Tolkien felt were important. We made a promise to ourselves at the beginning of the process that we weren't going to put any of our own politics, our own messages or our own themes into these movies. What we were trying to do was to analyse what was important to Tolkien and to try to honour that. In a way, were trying to make these films for him, not for ourselves."

It is absolutely baffling to me how this show manages to make it feel like we lost, rather than gained, two decades of cinematographical advancement

When Princess Disa said to Elrond: "White Elves Can't Jump!" - It gave me chills.

The part where Gandalf said to Galadriel “get to the chopper” brought a tear to my eyes, best adaptation of Tolkien’s work ever.

I’d call this fan fiction, but you’d have to have been an actual fan of Tolkien’s work first.

Nothing can beat Tolkien and Peter Jackson's version.

"The past is dead. We either move forward or die with it". I think it's an obvious message from the production as to what lies ahead of us and what their endgame really is. So disappointing .

Galadriel is one of the most powerful beings in Middle Earth. She doesn't need to wave a sword around or man-spread to show how strong she is. This is a dumpster fire.

I don't get how this can simultaneously have amazing visual effects and also look like its a cheap production. It's something in the aesthetic of Middle-Earth - it's off - and also in the make up, costume design, and line delivery.

Edit: Whoa, I didn't expect this to blow up. For the record, I don't like to jump on bandwagons. Especially not to hate on a show that I've not seen. I will do my best to reserve judgement on it until I've seen it. However, I am underwhelmed by the dialogue and the presentation of the character designs. I really do wish the best for this show and I'm definitely not one of those people complaining about the diversity in casting - for me that's a good thing and totally not the issue. My concern is that the show will be a tale of two halves: stunning visuals on one hand, and a weak story, wooden performances with clunky and cheap costume and make up on the other hand.

Watch this, and then go watch fellowships trailer from 2001, and the difference is staggering. This is corporatized sterile soulless media, while the original was clearly a labor of love. I also doesn't have a stupid "progressive" quote ripping off Starwars either.
