"I have not passed through fire and death to bandy crooked words with a witless worm."
No coming back from that one.

Can we all just acknowledge how incredible the 'old age' effect on Theoden was and how seamless the transition was as his youth returned?

“I go to my fathers. And even in their mighty company I shall not now be ashamed.”

RIP Bernard Hill

Gandalf walking calmly while Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli throw hands with Rohan's guards will never stop being badass to me. He knew he wouldn't be touched by any of those punches.

"I told you to take the wizards staff"

LOTR equivalent of you had one job.

i love how the two guards at the door were perfectly aware of gandalf and his power, and let him keep his staff regardless. i think they were absolutely in on how gandalf would have the ability to restore theodeon. props to them!!!

This scene has some of the best writing in the entire trilogy.

“The courtesy of your halls has somewhat lessened of late, Theoden king.”
“Late is the hour in which this conjurer chooses to appear. Lathspell I name him. Ill news is an ill guest.”
“Be silent and keep your forked tongue behind your teeth. I have not passed through fire and death to bandy crooked words with a witless worm.”
“Too long have you sat in the shadows.”
“Harken to me!”
“I will draw you Saruman, as poison is drawn from a wound”
“You did not kill me, you will NOT kill him.”
“Breathe the free air again, my friend.”
“Dark have been my dreams of late.”
“Your fingers would remember their old strength better if they grasped your sword.”

Most of these lines were penned down by Tolkien himself. And the way these legendary actors deliver them is also brilliant. This scene has endless rewatchability for me.

“”Dark have been my dreams of late””. This line hits me right in the centre of my heart, I believe we can all relate to this trilogy by looking at our own struggles through life and death.

Why am I watching a clip? I should be watching the whole trilogy!

“I will draw you, Saruman, as poison is drawn from a wound.”

Just love that line.

The way the Rohan theme on violin re-emerges as he reaches for his sword, and that thick heavy sound of its unsheathing never fails to give me chills. What a moment, and what phenomenal music and sound directing

Let’s get some love for Brad Dourif as Grima here. One of the most underrated performances of the trilogy.

How Ian McKellan didn't get an Oscar for his iconic performance is beyond me.

Everyone talks about Theoden's rejuvenation, but my personal favorite moment is when Gandalf pushes Theoden away for the last time and Saruman is shown symbolically falling backwards. Not only the transition is smooth af, but it brings you directly back to their first duel in FOTR, when Gandalf was weaker and kept being pushed the same way. Tells you a lot about how much stronger he has become, not to mention Saruman confused look right after.
