Old fashioned system? The lens physically moves inside the barrel to focus with a “false” glass cap lens - so what you point to as the objective lens isn’t actually the objective lens and so they aren’t really the smaller version of the 42s as they are built fundamentally differently. However they look splendid and are no doubt superb.

Spectacle wearers will find no light getting around the oculars and giving an orange fringe as the EL 8x32s do in a low sun situation:
