Multie Fry! (Shelldwelling cichlids, Neolamprologus multifasciatus)

Multies are shelldwelling cichlids, and quite possibly the smallest cichlid in the world!

I have been keeping multies (Neolamprologus multifasciatus) for a few years, and they bred quite prolifically for a while. They suddenly stopped. I decided to troubleshoot, and now I three pairs of multies with fry again! Shelldwellers are fascinating cichlids whose lives revolve around empty snail shells..they are native to Lake Tanganyika.

They’re so adorable! They’ll be growing into those shells soon enough!

Interesting timing, I noticed fry a week or so for the first time in my multi colony. Didn't know that about the neirites. I had put a couple in to knock back an algae issue a while back. I'll have to fish them out. What fun!

I saw my first fry in my multifasciatus tank! 🎉 Seems like it took forever but it's only been a little over 4 weeks since I got them. I've only seen one but hoping there are more 😊

so cool Rus! Nothing like the feeling one gets when fry are seen...I assume there is no concern with the adults eating them?

Hi. Cute fish. Just got rid of my tank. You can see old vids on my channel. ;) Sad. My Nan now has them. She wonted them and I am moving soon and a tank would be to hard to move so far. So nan has it. Good vid love the content keep going. 😀😅

Miss keeping these so much! If you keep doing videos on your multis, I might just need a tank of shell dwellers again. Have you considered any of the others- N. brevis, N. ocellatus, N. caudopuntatus? Wally

Could they live with livebearers and rasboras and Eleonora the betta ? Or they are incompatible ? I'm not really planning to get new fish but possibly when all my old female guppies will pass away I might think about it . Would they be aggressive toward Eleonora ? And the espei rasboras ?

Congratulations on the fry. Glad to see them, but didn't expect them to be small.
Sorry that "Congratulations" doesn't send up balloons and streamers.

Just had my first spawn see at least 20! What should I feed them and should I do water changes I don’t want to throw off anything and kill them
